SRI PREM BABA TEACHES HOW TO BE GUIDED BY THE HEART AND THE TECHNIQUE OF SILENCE

November 30, 2020

A way to transform one’s perception of oneself is through silence. For PREM BABA, a scholar of life and a teacher, just a moment of silence is enough to focus attention and connect with the core of interiority. “A moment of silence is often enough to change the perception and the mood,” explains PREM BABA. “One minute is enough to alchemize the mind. Because in this instant, you take the reins of the thought. I’ve been insisting on this technique of making short stops throughout the day to taste these drops of silence.”

In essence, PREM BABA sums up that the practice of silence does not need form, as each one must set their own pace. “Even if it’s five times a day; it may be less, it may be more. I mention a number just to help in this first moment. At first, in order to give impulse to the will, until a flow is established and one starts to do it spontaneously”, he explains.

Prem Baba suggests that five minutes of the day be dedicated to the cultivation of silence, divided into five periods of one single minute, throughout the day. The choice of when to do it is free: before meals, upon waking up or at any other time.

“Note that this ‘one-minute’ can actually be thirty seconds or five minutes. Measuring time is only used as a reference to a moment when you disconnect from everything outside and turn inward. Then, in this instant, try to distance yourself from the flow of impermanence and turn to the center”, teaches Prem Baba. “To remember to do the practice is even more important than actually stopping to silence. The remembrance of the practice is the same as remembering the spirit, because the practice connects you with the spirit. It’s a very simple and yet a very powerful way to maintain the connection.”

SRI PREM BABA: HOW CAN YOU DOUBT THE HEAT OF THE FIRE WITHOUT APPROACHING IT?

In Prem Baba’s experience, when recognizing the power of silence in situations where the person perceives to have lost control of the mind and thoughts, they silence and return to the axis. “Allow yourself to be silent and return to your center a few times throughout the day, even if you have to do some effort. Gradually, it will be part of your daily life”, guarantees the master.

“I have suggested this exercise and many people end up not paying so much attention, precisely because it’s so simple. They believe that this technique is not enough to sustain self-remembrance. But how can you doubt the heat of the fire without approaching it? You need to put it into practice to see if it works or not.”

Within this journey of self-knowledge, Prem Baba teaches about the practice of listening and following the heart, leaving aside the many voices that try to influence you, taking you to one side or the other. “Just as I advise you to follow your heart and do my best for you to learn to listen to your heart only, I take this opportunity to talk about the importance of giving up the bad habit of wanting to influence others with things that sometimes you don’t even know, or you just think or believe you know”, warns Prem Baba.

“You create the lousy karma of getting people out of their way. Learn to admit that you may have no answers. It’s so wonderful to be able to say, “I don’t know”. Sometimes the other just wants a little push.”

Prem Baba emphasizes that by giving an opinion in the lives of others with thoughts we think we know about what works or not, we create a bad habit and many problems for ourselves. “If the person asks you for advice, just say, ‘listen to your heart’. What does the master say to you?  As I say: listen to your heart, because it knows the way”, he suggests.

The practice of listening to the heart at first may not be simple. Prem Baba points out that many people do not know how to listen to their own hearts. “Perhaps, at first, this is your main learning – listening to the heart – which is synonymous with intuition, the master’s voice who speaks through synchronicities and mysterious coincidences, guiding you”.

This is how one moves towards freedom”, details Prem Baba. “The heart has wings. The heart needs to fly.”

PREM BABA SAYS THERE IS A REALITY BEYOND THE FIVE SENSES

Interpreting the paths may not be simple, because as Prem Baba says, there is no certainty about the directions pointed out by the heart. “The challenges arise because of not knowing how to deal with events that appear”, he summarizes. It’s worth remembering the example of a man who felt his heart say to drop everything and go to another city, selling everything he had. As he arrived at the new place, he was robbed and left with nothing, sleeping on a park bench. Despite all the adversities he faced, it was there that he fell in love and started a new life. Prem Baba reflects: “Was it a failure in perception?  Was it the ego disguised at heart telling him to go to that city? Perhaps. How to find out, if you are not endeavoring yourself?”

It’s important to remember that completing something in transit is impossible. “Our life is made up of silences and mysteries, until comes the moment when we can feel this connection with the soul of the world to the point of relying even more on intuition than on reason”, says Prem Baba. “And believe me, that moment comes when we trust intuition more than reason”. Prem Baba says he has been through it a few times in his life.

“Science, mathematics, reason and logic proved to me that I had to go left, but my intuition said to go right. I learned to recognize and listen to intuition and prove that intuition is sovereign, because it can know and perceive things that are beyond the ego”, he adds. “Reason can only be clear about what the ego captures, which is submitted to the five senses. But there is a reality beyond. This wisdom of uncertainty is revealed little by little, and you learn through mistakes and successes.”

In summary, Prem Baba points out that the world works within a balance, that is, there is a time and place for things to happen. “Everything is absolutely right and at the right time, nothing is out of place. Each one is in the house of the game of life where they need to be to learn to love, to awaken love. Learning to love is a way of speaking. You don’t learn to love. Love is the fragrance of the soul. What you learn is to stop hating, to stop being afraid”, analyzes Prem Baba.

“You are in the house of the game of life that you need to be in to relearn the language of love and reestablish the connection with the heart. By being guided by it, you free yourself from the feeling of being in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing. Guided by the heart, you will always feel fit, in the right place at the right time. ”
