Charity is the essence of true spirituality; when you truly help those in need, it becomes a sacred act. But the ego can easily appropriate this idea and create a pseudo-charity that, deep down, is still in the service of vanity — because authentic charity is only possible when there's consciousness and you want nothing in return.
