Don’t be alarmed if the world has stopped making sense

September 10, 2025

There are moments in life when everything seems to lose its meaning. That which once sustained us (beliefs, choices, relationships, even our very identity) no longer serves us.

This emptiness, as frightening as it may seem, can be the beginning of a profound inner transformation. I would say it is the beginning of a crossing, because when this happens, it means the soul is expanding, seeking space to express itself with truth—giving the impression that nothing makes sense anymore.

I invite you to join me in this reading as we dive into this theme.

Awakening is not a fairy tale

It is common for spiritual awakening to be seen as a permanent state of peace and ecstasy. While these elements are indeed part of awakening, believing it to be limited to that is nothing more than an idealization.

The truth is that awakening is synonymous with deconstruction. The ego, which created identities and masks to survive, begins to disintegrate and, without doubt, this is quite uncomfortable: the soul cries out for freedom while the personality resists.

This resistance—often unconscious—is what makes the process more painful. The truth is that a part of you has awakened and can no longer go back to sleep. In some cases, it may even spark a strong, extreme experience we call a “spiritual emergency.”

What is a spiritual emergency?

It is a fact that the movement of awakening leads us toward the light, but it can also trigger a “spiritual emergency.” The Czech psychiatrist Stanislav Grof, who carried out research on spirituality in the United States during the 1970s, defined this phenomenon as “an accelerated process of spiritual and psychological growth.”

In practice, spiritual vision opens, sensitivity intensifies, and everything that was dormant begins to emerge: fears, traumas, memories, and even forgotten spiritual gifts come to the surface.

We can say it represents the collapse of old internal structures in the face of the awakening of something greater. To conventional medicine, this may appear to be nothing more than a breakdown, but from the spiritual perspective, it is a transition of the soul toward the light.

Even if, at first, this light manifests as darkness, it is considered normal, because it reveals everything that needs to be healed. In other words, as challenging as it may be, it is an opportunity for transformation.

Has the world stopped making sense? That’s a good sign!

Of course, you don’t need to go through a “spiritual emergency” to notice that the frequency of the world is shifting. The truth is that when old references lose meaning, there is a call to shift the focus of our perception.

And if the world no longer makes sense within your perception, it means you are freeing yourself from “borrowed truths.” A clear example are those old ideas about who God is, what is right and wrong, and other concepts you heard your whole life that no longer have meaning for your path.

This is the point at which you are invited to free yourself from dogmas and listen to the voice of intuition—which is nothing but the voice of the heart. This is true spirituality: not a new doctrine, but the freedom to follow the truth that dwells within us.

Here begins a genuine process of discovery of who you truly are, bringing freedom to your Being. But be prepared, because this liberation also comes with challenges.

The challenges of the spiritual crossing

Purification happens in layers, and the challenges manifest through the energy centers in our body: the chakras. Although we have many chakras spread throughout the body, there are seven that are considered the main ones.

In the first two chakras, we deal with themes of survival and relationships. In the third, we face trials related to power. It is necessary to confront these issues in order to move forward—something few people manage, and many give up.

But those who make it through these spheres begin to come into contact with true surrender, which begins in the fourth chakra, the heart center. In this state there is no more control—only trust remains (in God, in life, and in the flow of existence).

How to sustain the inner heaven?

No matter where you are on your journey—between highs and lows—the expansion of consciousness requires support. The tools for this I have recommended many times; they are simple yet powerful: Japa (repetition of mantras), meditation, and selfless service.

These practices keep the soul anchored in the present and open to divine guidance, for in this way we place ourselves in service of life and, consequently, open ourselves to being sustained by a greater force.

The result of putting this into practice is something we all long for: peace of mind. For even if the outer world is in chaos, a silent peace begins to be born within.

A new consciousness is being born

We are living through a delicate collective moment, as ignorance, fear, and separation are being laid bare. Humanity is being called to mature.

Everything I have described here is part of the crossing from the old consciousness to the new. And as challenging as it is, it carries great possibilities for freedom, love, and union.

That is why I say: Don’t be alarmed if the world has stopped making sense. It may simply be your soul wanting to return home.
