AN EMPTY MIND IS GOD’S WORKSHOP

March 20, 2024

When we talk about an “empty mind,” we often evoke that old saying that associates idleness with the “devil’s workshop.”* Indeed, where laziness is at play, there is where the lower self will be planting its weeds, and in that case, the traditional saying makes sense. However, I invite you to explore a different paradigm, a perspective where an empty mind is not a wasteland for malicious tendencies but a sacred sanctuary for divinity; a workshop of God.

The empty mind I refer to is not a disengaged or negligent mind, but a mind emptied of the whirlwind of thoughts, worries, and distractions that frequently occupy it. It is a state of presence, where each moment is fully lived, and each breath is a new creation.

The stillness of the mind is the fertile soil where the seeds of divinity are planted. When the mind is free from the incessant internal noise, it becomes a receptacle for divine wisdom, creativity, and love. It is in this space of clarity and tranquility that we can truly connect with our Higher Self and with the Divine, allowing Spiritual Intelligence to manifest in our daily life.

This state of empty mind is achieved through the cultivation of silence, leading to meditation. Meditation is not just a technique to relax the body and mind but a deep journey into the Self in us, where we can discover our true essence, pure, complete, and eternally connected to the Whole.

When we connect with silence, we are not fleeing from the world but better equipping ourselves to act within it in a more conscious and harmonious way. The empty mind, paradoxically, is full of unlimited potential. It is the workshop where God can work through us, creating beauty, love, and transformation.

Therefore, I invite you to explore the inner silence, to cultivate that sacred space within you where the Divine can express itself. Do not fear emptiness, for it is in emptiness that we find plenitude. It is in stillness that we discover the purest sound of the Universe – the sound of unconditional love that permeates all creation.

Embrace the practice of emptying the mind, not as an act of negligence towards your duties, but as an act of supreme faith and openness to the Divine. The belief that we have no time to be silent is exactly contrary to reality, for when we silence, we find the clarity to do everything we need. Allow yourself to be the workshop where God manifests His glory, through the compassion, love, and wisdom that flow when we open up to

the true essence of the Self in us with the power of silence.

* Translator’s note: In the Portuguese saying equivalent to “an idle mind is the devil’s workshop,” the term used for “idle” is synonymous with “empty.”
